NYU’s large, multifaceted Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions invites applications for a position in its Music Business Program at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor to begin September 1, 2013.  This is a non-tenure track position.

The Music Business Program combines major elements of a global, liberal arts education with professional training.  Students learn about the music industry within the context of history, literature, and other liberal arts, and their coursework involves the application of knowledge. The Program offers baccalaureate (BMus) and master’s (MA) degrees in Music Business.

Responsibilities:

The new faculty member will create and teach both fundamental and advanced undergraduate music business courses; mentor students as they progress through their senior capstone projects; develop and maintain high-level professional bridges to the music industry; assist with program administration; participate in student recruitment activities; and, participate in faculty meetings, committees, and other services appropriate to a university faculty member.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a passion for all types of musical expression; extensive, current, and high-level business experience in the music and entertainment industry; proven professional success in projects involving complex data analysis, business strategy, and forecasting within the context of the economics of music creation; a strong track record of professional entrepreneurial success; and fluency in the language of entrepreneurial finance. The successful candidate must have a master’s degree in a business-related field or JD, and teaching experience at the university level.
